Jody Hanson, who spent her 30th birthday in Pankshin, Nigeria and her 40th in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, invited over 500 people to her 50th in Timbuktu, Mali.

Alas and alack, only Nurse Pamela showed up. The more than 499 who failed to attend missed out on a camel ride, classy accommodation, using reliable public transport and eating in wonderful local restaurants.

The birthday dinner was held at Le Poulet d'Or and attended by locals.
Jody attributes the lack of attendance to having disorganised, wimpy friends and the fact that she didn't give everyone enough notice.

Therefore, you are cordially invited to Jody's 60th birthday party at Victoria Falls in Zambia on 24 January 2013.

Start planning your trip now!  There is no point in leaving everything until the last minute. Be sure you have a valid passport, an updated International Certificate of Vaccination and a return ticket.

If you are planning on flying directly to Zambia, inform your local travel agent that Lusaka is the capital city. You can then make your way to Victoria Falls, near Livingstone (named after another doctor), by catching a regional flight, taking the express train or going by local bus.

According to the Lonely Planet's Africa on a shoestring, as well as admiring one of the natural wonders of the world you can also "go rafting downstream from the falls or microlighting above them, watch rhinos and zebras in dry savanna, or get soaked to the skin in lush rainforest."

Those who aren't interested in nature outings might want to join Jody and Nurse Pamela at the Zambezi Show Bar before retiring to your classy accommodation.
